1972515_10152748511081165_1477782850_nChildren, youth, adults and elders came together to walk the main avenues of Salina Cruz, Oaxaca, Mexico on March 1st, 2014. The Church of the Nazarene, Nuevo Amanecer, located in that community, organized the march. Hundreds of people joined, including Nazarene churches and churches from other denominations, to pray for the Lord’s peace, grace and mercy on this city.

The march ended in front of City Hall with a concert of worship and intercession. There they prayed for the authorities, youth, children and the general population; declaring from the rooftops that Jesus Is Lord of Salina Cruz!

This is the testimony of Brother Josué Barrera, who along with Pastor Yovani Cabrera, organized this event:

My name is Josué Barrera, I am a pastor, musician and lecturer from Guatemala. A few months ago, I moved from Guatemala to Salina Cruz, Oaxaca, Mexico, to pastor the Church of the Nazarene, Nuevo Amanecer, along with Pastor Yovani Cabrera.

Salina Cruz, like many communities needs the good news of the gospel. I believe that one of the biggest challenges that many churches face, is leaving the comfort and working to strive to be what God expects us to be; His representatives on earth, a community of hope.

Pastor Yovani and I decided to mobilize the church outside the temple through evangelism cells. In this context, we organize a march called “An Outcry for Salina Cruz.” This event was intended to mobilize the church in a clamor for the blessing of the city. The Bible says in Proverbs 11:11 By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but the mouth of the wicked it is overthrown.

We love to talk, to make plans, to dream on what we can do, but those are just words. The Bible says: Work brings profit, but mere talk leads to poverty! Proverbs 14:23 (NLT). Perhaps this is a small effort, but we have testimonies of what God has done through this march Our cells are beginning to have fruit and as a church we are focused on becoming the church God dreamed for Salina Cruz. No matter where you are, your background or resources, just remember there are no small churches, if they are churches that have a great God. Go for it! God wants to use us for His glory. Let this 2014 become a year of new beginnings for your life, your family and ministry.

God bless you.
