Last weekend’s 59th District Assembly on the Church of the Nazarene Trinidad and Tobago District was attended by 200 delegates representing 30 Nazarene Assemblies.  The theme of the Assembly was the Power of ONE.

The Assembly was chaired by CNC President Rev. Dr Scoffield Eversley who challenged delegates “to move on, to move forward in ministry” and not stay in “Kadesh Barnea” – a place of murmuring, rebellion, jealousy, and hatred; a place of unforgiveness where the core values of the Church of the Nazarene will not be able to take root.

District Superintendent Rev. Dr Victor George reported 191 members received by profession of faith.  He also made projections for the completion of the District Action Plan, a Ministers and Spouses Retreat, and a Regional Missional Conference.  The District Superintendent also presented 29 Senior Pastors with Tablet PCs which were gifts from donors on the Mesoamerica Region of the Church of the Nazarene.

The Assembly approved the recommendation of the District Ministerial Credentials Board to grant 2 persons, Kerwyn Wilson (Guanapo Church of the Nazarene) and Marcia Bompart (St. James Church of the Nazarene) their first District Minister’s Licences.

The Assembly also approved the recommendation of the District Ministerial Credentials Board to grant Elder’s Orders to 6 Pastors – Arnold Hargreaves (Piarco Church of the Nazarene), Kevin Johnson (Petit Valley Church of the Nazarene), Alvilene Williams (Arima Church of the Nazarene), Hazel Ann George (Couva Church of the Nazarene), Peter Stroude (Santa Cruz Church of the Nazarene), and Christine Thompson (Cochrane Church of the Nazarene). These Ordinands are expected to be ordained by General Superintendent Dr. Gustavo Crocker on April 8, 2014 at the St. James Church of the Nazarene following his approval of the recommendation.

Moreover, the Assembly elected: Rev. Dr Anthony Quimby and Gary Francois to the District Advisory Board for one year; Rev. David Ali, Rev. Alicia Baptist, Andy Edwards, and Michelle Francis to the District Pensions and Benefits Board for two years; Rev. Gregory Isaacs, Rev. Chjaitram Babooram, Rev. Cheryl Ann Cardinez, Minister Arnold Hargreaves, Miguel Lara, Nicholas DeSormeaux, and Leslie Harris to the District Board of Church Properties for two years; and Maria Thomas as the District’s CNC Representative on the College’s Board of Trustees for two years.

Furthermore, the District Assembly ratified several resolutions passed by the International Church of the Nazarene General Assembly in Indiana last year.

The District Treasurer Gary Francois reported that the District received TT$ 2,093,394 and spent TT$ 2,267,245.

The Assembly closed following a minute of silence for those members who had passed on during the last assembly year namely June Lewis and Kerr Harridan from the Arima Church of the Nazarene, Carl Alvarez and Monica Mathisoh from the Cumuto Church of the Nazarene, Phillip George from the Dibe Church of the Nazarene, Olivia Kerr from the Nazarene Worship Centre, Camiel-Best and Ralph Best from the Point Fortin Church of the Nazarene, Yvonne Harper, Whitney Brooks, Gladstone Blackman, and Bernice Bompart from the St. James Church of the Nazarene, and Olive Medina, June Ryan, and Teresa Callendar from the Santa Cruz Church of the Nazarene.

To GOD be the Glory.
