After Hurricane Maria pounded Puerto Rico on Wednesday, Sept. 20, two churches of the Nazarene in the East District reported severe damages.

The building of the House of Proclamation Church of the Nazarene in Cataño suffered structural damage. Pastor Gladybell Rivera and her family, however, are safe.

The building of the Country Club Church of the Nazarene, pastored by Pastor Julio Rodriguez, also reported severe property damage.

Nazarene Missions International President in the East District, Nahir García, said, “(The storm) has ended. There is much destruction. But we are all well, thanks be to God.”

Central Area Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Coordinator Paquita Bido said, “We will remain in contact and continue to pray for Puerto Rico’s quick recovery. God is still God and this is his Church.”

The East District of the Church of the Nazarene has reported on their social networks that there was no loss of life within the church, but the destruction of the infrastructure has been massive. In the coming days they will make fuller evaluations of the damages in their churches.
