A few months after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, Regional Evangelism Coordinator Bernie Slingerland visited the country. It was difficult for him to imagine who God could use this time to plant churches there.

Despite that, the Church of the Nazarene went from not having a single new church one year to having 100 new churches, and the next year 700 new churches. Now, in the last three years, the Church established over 1000 new preaching points. They have organized a new district and some 10,000 people have accepted Christ as their savior each year. To achieve these results, the Church has used Jesus Film presentations along with other church planting strategies.

Rev. Bernie Slingerland has guided the movement for the last 16 years, but he will be moving on to a new assignment in October. As he says, “it is time for a new evangelism coordinator to continue facilitating the work in Haiti and beyond . . . It is time for a Joshua to step up and continue in Mesoamerica Regional Evangelism!”
