Mesoamerica Family Care Ministry held its first meeting for pastoral couples in Guatemala on Jan. 29 in the Guatemala Central District.

Last September, a group of psychologists, pastors and leaders from various countries within the Mesoamerica Region attended training with Miguel and Irene Garita, the Family Care Ministry Coordinators. They provided training and tools so that leaders would be able to develop ministries that promote quality of life in pastoral families and families in general.  Irene Garita said the meeting in the Central District is the first that has come about as a result of the first training event.

Consuelo Bojorquez and Marlon Mendoza, along with District Superintendent Cesar A. Ayala, coordinated the event.

During the meeting they presented the Family Care program, which the approximately 30 couples received with great interest.  The program will include a monthly gathering to address a series of themes, marital counseling sessions, a couples’ retreat and a camp for the children.  Also included is a weekly Family Altar guide to be used in family devotional time.

“We are very happy that Consuelo Bojorquez and Marlon Mendoza accepted this challenge as a couple.  We pray that this ministry will continue to expand in our Region,” Irene Garita said.
