On October 5th and 6th 2016, a training of the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM) and Healing Waters International (HWI) took place in the city of Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, in Mexico. In order to present the Chiapas and Oaxaca Initiative; which will implement water purification plants through the Holistic Transformation Model that includes health and hygiene talks, finance curriculum and clean water for the community.

Brother Sebastian Ovando, Mexico HWI Coordinator, said that the need for purified water is becoming more vital each day. Infant mortality figures indicate that the states of Chiapas and Oaxaca are where the highest rates of deaths occur annually, mainly caused by gastrointestinal diseases from consuming contaminated water. Also Brother Juan José, Americas HWI Regional Director, said the Holistic Model includes health and hygiene awareness talks in the community.

During the event, the agreement of the Mexico Church of the Nazarene and HWI was announced. In addition they visited, a water purification plant, a ministry that begun about 12 years ago located in “Las Granjas” Church of the Nazarene.

Currently, various Nazarene Churches are in the process of starting with this ministry in the South Pacific, South, South Border, Oaxaca, and Oaxaca Norponiente districts.

Mexico NCM Coordinator said “we are confident that this initiative will be a great blessing to the communities where the Church of the Nazarene are located, we will see fruits of transformed lives in the name of Jesus and as a church we will help generate good hygiene. We were called to embody the needs of a world that cry out for the compassion of God’s people. ”
