The program Pastor Kids in Haiti, planned to carry out during this year (2018) a training for the parents of the children in the program as part of its objectives.

This program is always looking for opportunities to promote holistic child development ministries, because of that a training in health and hygiene was provided. Nancy Delva, WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) facilitator explained that “health development in a locality will not be successful if each citizen does not recognize their role within the community. One way to help the district to move forward fully is to teach them how to protect themselves from contaminated food and microbes, thus avoiding some illnesses”. For that reason, Nazarene Compassionate Ministries decided to provide a workshop on cholera in all the districts to prevent its spread, especially in times of rains and natural disasters, and consequently reduce existing cases.

Until July 20th, the training has been completed in 5 districts: Central, South, Grand’Anse, Lower Artibonite and Southeast. The superintendents of these districts and about 100 pastors and some of their wives have participated. Part of the goal is for them to pass on the knowledge to others, first to their homes, then to their congregations and communities.
There are still districts pending to be trained with more than 150 pastors.

The following topics are addressed in the workshop:

• What is cholera and how is this disease transmitted?
• How to identify the symptoms?
• How can it be treated?
• What prevention should be taken against this disease?

The participants expressed their gratitude to the Church of the Nazarene for organizing this workshop. They showed their satisfaction and desire to participate in more health and community development workshops in order to continue advancing together in the Kingdom of God.
