On November 11, 2013, the Central Senahú Church of the Nazarene, Guatemala, organized a medical program. 60 seniors attended and most of them were widows. The doctor working that day was Dr. René Rivas, National Coordinator for NCM, who counted on the support from the community’s Medical Center.

All patients were given a dose of medicine for parasites, a packet of vitamins, and necessary medicines according to the type of illness the person had.

Senahú, an Alta Verpaz suburb, is a community that speaks kekchí in northeast Guatemala. It has been greatly affected by the loss of many lives due to mud slides because of constant rain. In addition, this community has many health problems because of the low income families receive there and the abandonment of their corresponding authorities.

Dr. Rivas also helped the community by giving a talk about health and hygiene through the community’s Christian radio broadcasting station.

“Health is a very important topic in which the church should take responsibility. We thank God for the local church’s Compassion Committee and their pastor, Osvaldo Alonzo, because they are aware of this and are helping needy people.”
